A shocking incident unfolded at GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden, as a 32-year-old man, Riyazuddin, who was admitted for over a month due to an abdominal infection, was shot dead allegedly by an 18-year-old suspect. The assailant entered the hospital, targeting another individual but mistook Riyazuddin for the intended victim. This tragic event occurred in Ward Number 24, where the accused opened fire, resulting in three fatal bullet injuries to Riyazuddin. The entire sequence of events unfolded in front of other patients, medical staff, and attendants, leaving everyone in shock.

The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has raised serious concerns about the security measures at the hospital. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj condemned the act, emphasizing the need for enhanced security protocols across all hospitals. The accused managed to escape from the scene, presenting a challenge for law enforcement agencies to track him down.

Following the shooting, the hospital authorities have ramped up security around the campus to prevent such incidents in the future. Moreover, the Resident Doctors’ Association at GTB Hospital has declared an indefinite strike to address the security concerns, although emergency services will continue to operate.

In response to the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the increasing crime rates and the lack of fear among criminals. He attributed these issues to the tenure of the Lieutenant Governor, pinpointing a decline in the city’s safety and the rising boldness of wrongdoers. Bharadwaj’s concerns regarding the state of law enforcement in Delhi underscore the urgent need for comprehensive measures to ensure public safety.
