In a heartwarming exchange between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and World Health Organization’s (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to ‘Tulsi Bhai’ for the wishes on his election victory. The WHO chief had congratulated PM Modi on his re-election in the Lok Sabha polls, emphasizing the need for close collaboration for #HealthForAll.

In response to Dr. Tedros’ message, PM Modi took to X to thank his friend ‘Tulsi Bhai’ and highlighted India’s cooperation with WHO in promoting the vision of ‘One Earth One Health’. The establishment of the first WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India has further strengthened the joint efforts towards achieving #HealthForAll.

The affectionate nickname ‘Tulsi Bhai’ stems from a past interaction between PM Modi and the WHO chief during the Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit in Gujarat in 2022. During the summit, Dr. Tedros had requested PM Modi to choose a Gujarati name for him, eventually leading to the endearing moniker.

This exchange of goodwill comes at a significant time as PM Modi is poised to take on the role of India’s Prime Minister for a historic third consecutive term. Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not securing a majority on its own in the polls, the party-led alliance managed to secure 293 seats out of 543, ensuring a majority in the lower house.

With top leaders from various countries expected to attend PM Modi’s upcoming swearing-in ceremony on June 9, the event is set to be a diplomatic showcase of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and strategic engagement with key nations in the Indian Ocean region. The guest list has been curated to strengthen ties with important allies and focus on island nations with strategic significance.

As the world watches, PM Modi’s expressions of gratitude to ‘Tulsi Bhai’ and his enduring camaraderie with the WHO chief exemplify the spirit of collaboration and shared vision towards enhancing global health efforts.
