The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union Education Ministry have announced the formation of a four-member committee to review the results of over 1,500 candidates who were awarded “grace marks” in the NEET UG 2024 exams. This move comes amidst allegations of irregularities and discrepancies in the results of this year’s National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate).
The committee, led by a former UPSC chairperson, has already started its investigation and is expected to present its recommendations within the next week. The review process is aimed at addressing concerns raised by students and ensuring fairness in the evaluation of results.
NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh has stated that the qualification criteria and admission process will not be affected by this review. The panel will carefully examine the cases of candidates who received additional marks and determine the course of action, which may involve revising the results of the affected students.
Singh emphasized that the grace marks awarded to certain candidates did not impact the qualifying standards of the exam. He also dismissed claims of a paper leak, assuring transparency and integrity in the examination process.
The NEET UG 2024 results have sparked controversy, with a record number of candidates achieving perfect scores and concerns raised over the scoring system. The increased cutoff scores this year have been attributed to the competitive nature of the exam and the surge in participation.
Overall, the review panel’s findings are eagerly awaited as they aim to address the discrepancies and ensure a fair evaluation of the NEET-UG 2024 results. Stay tuned for updates on the outcome of the committee’s investigation.
