On Saturday, President Emmanuel Macron announced that France and the United States are increasing their efforts to prevent a broader escalation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on calming tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Macron, along with Joe Biden during the U.S. President’s state visit to France, stated that they are intensifying their joint efforts to avoid a regional explosion, especially in Lebanon. The two countries are working on advancing parameters to reduce tensions and address the institutional vacuum in Lebanon as part of their collaborative strategy. In recent months, both France and the United States have submitted written proposals to Israel and Hezbollah to ease escalating tensions along the border. Macron highlighted the close coordination between the nations in discussions with Israel on one side and Lebanon, emphasizing the commitment to exert necessary pressures to stop the trend of escalation in the region. Despite concerns, France, Britain, and Germany passed a resolution against Iran over its nuclear program at the U.N. nuclear watchdog’s Board of Governors, aiming to address Iran’s provocative actions and prevent further escalation. Macron also mentioned Iran’s strategy of escalation in the region, referencing Tehran’s attack on Israel and the development of its nuclear program. Biden’s state visit to France, following the 80th anniversary of D-Day, includes discussions on trade, Israel, and Ukraine. The joint efforts of France and the United States underscore the importance of international collaboration in preventing conflicts and promoting peace in the Middle East.
