In a recent development, the United Naga Council (UNC) in Manipur has taken a significant step by barring Congress MP Alfred Kanngam S. Arthur along with S. Kho John and Allyson Abonmai from public platforms and holding any position or leadership in the Naga society for a duration of seven years. The decision, which came into immediate effect, was made following the trio’s actions that were deemed as a defiance of the position of the UNC during the Lok Sabha elections. The UNC stated that the individuals ‘purposively defied and failed to respect and honour the position of the UNC’ and made ‘wilful attempts to challenge the Naga peoples’ position and its spirit of unity’. This move has sparked reactions on social media platforms and has been seen as a response to the recent election results, particularly in the Outer Manipur constituency. The notification by the Naga body did not name Mr. Zimik, who lost to Mr. Arthur in the election. The decision also directed all constituent units and Naga population to uphold the resolution and ensure enforcement in their respective areas. This action has stirred discussions and reactions within the Naga community and the broader political landscape of Manipur.
