The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred on June 9, when terrorists opened fire at the bus en route from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra. The bus, carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Teryath village, resulting in nine fatalities and 42 injuries. Following the attack, the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the investigation to the NIA.
The NIA has registered its own First Information Report (FIR) after taking over the probe from the Jammu and Kashmir police. Officials have indicated that the agency will delve deeper into a potential larger conspiracy behind the attack, possibly linked to other incidents in Kathua and Doda that occurred in the aftermath of the bus attack. The Home Minister emphasized the importance of leveraging modern technology to strengthen intelligence networks, locate terrorist tunnels, and address drone intrusions, calling for security forces and intelligence agencies to work together in a mission-oriented and coordinated manner.
During a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, security measures in the region were discussed, with a focus on countering terrorism effectively. The recent incidents in Jammu and Kashmir have brought forth the need for heightened security measures and a comprehensive approach towards combating terrorism in the region. With the NIA now leading the investigation, the focus will be on unraveling the intricacies of the attack and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
