Google has officially launched its Gemini chatbot app in India, bringing the power of its Gemini Advanced model to smartphone users in the country. The Gemini app supports nine Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, along with English. Users can download the Gemini app from the Google Play Store on Android devices and soon on iOS via Google Assistant.
Gemini Advanced, powered by Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro model, offers an extensive context window of 1 million tokens, allowing users to process and understand large amounts of information. The chatbot can handle tasks like summarizing documents up to 1,500 pages, processing 100 emails, and generating insights from data. It also provides support for English and the nine Indian languages on the Gemini mobile app.
Google’s Vice President of Engineering, Amar Subramanya, highlighted that Gemini Advanced aims to offer a conversational, multimodal, and helpful AI assistant to users. The app enables users to interact through typing, voice commands, and even image uploads, making it versatile for various tasks like setting reminders, making calls, or seeking assistance with different scenarios.
While the Gemini chatbot is capable of swift content generation, Google acknowledges that the technology behind it is experimental, and errors may occur. To address misinformation, an option has been provided for users to verify Gemini’s responses against web search results. Overall, the launch of Gemini in India marks a significant step in bringing advanced AI capabilities to users in the country through an easy-to-use and versatile mobile app.
