The upcoming Google Pixel 9 series is set to revolutionize smartphone security with the integration of the highly advanced 3D Sonic Gen 2 ultrasonic fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm. The leak from Android Authority‘s Kamila Wojciechowska has unveiled this exciting development.

The 3D Sonic Gen 2 sensor, already featured in Samsung’s Galaxy S24, is powered by Suprema software, ensuring precise signal reading and matching. This marks a significant upgrade from the current optical scanner by Goodix in the Pixel series, addressing previous user complaints regarding reliability and speed.

One key advantage of the ultrasonic sensor is its immunity to external factors like moisture or dirt, which can impede the performance of optical sensors. By adopting the Qualcomm sensor, Google aims to enhance user experience and security with improved sensor technology.

The technology behind the 3D Sonic Gen 2 involves ultrasonic pulses to map the unique ridges and valleys of a user’s fingerprint. This creates a detailed 64mm² reproduction of the fingerprint, ensuring accurate and secure authentication.

While all models of the Pixel 9 series are expected to incorporate the new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, the Pixel Fold will retain a capacitive scanner within the power button. The official unveiling of the Google Pixel 9 series is scheduled for August 13th, generating anticipation among tech enthusiasts and consumers.

This significant upgrade in biometric technology highlights Google’s commitment to enhancing security and user experience in its flagship smartphones. Stay tuned for the official launch event to witness the unveiling of the Pixel 9 series with its groundbreaking ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
