The recent controversy surrounding IAS probationary officer Puja Khedkar has been making headlines after allegations of misconduct and misuse of power surfaced. According to a report by the Navi Mumbai police, Khedkar reportedly contacted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vivek Pansare to request the release of a man arrested in a steel theft case, who happened to be a relative of hers. This incident took place on May 18 at the Panvel police station. Despite identifying herself as an IAS officer during the call, the DCP was hesitant to release the individual. Despite Khedkar’s efforts, the man, identified as transporter Ishwar Uttarwade, remains in judicial custody for the alleged crime.

The controversy surrounding Khedkar further escalated when it was revealed that she had made demands such as a separate cabin and additional staff during her tenure at the Pune collector’s office, leading to her transfer to the Washim district in central Maharashtra. Additionally, allegations have emerged regarding her attempts to secure her position in the IAS by allegedly submitting a false certificate claiming visual impairment to gain exemptions during the examination process.

Furthermore, the Central government has constituted a single-member committee to investigate the allegations against Khedkar, focusing on the validity of her disability certificate and her claims regarding the OBC non-creamy layer status. The committee will delve into the specifics of her candidature and conduct during her probation.

The controversial actions of Khedkar have raised concerns over the ethical standards expected from civil servants and the integrity of the selection process for prestigious government positions. The allegations of misuse of power and attempts to influence law enforcement decisions have sparked a debate on the accountability and transparency required from individuals holding influential positions within the bureaucracy. As the investigation unfolds, the public remains eager to uncover the truth behind the allegations and the repercussions that may follow for Khedkar’s career as an IAS officer.
