Drawing inspiration from the iconic ‘stillsuits’ featured in the science fiction series Dune, researchers have unveiled a cutting-edge design that could significantly enhance astronaut hygiene and mission efficiency.

The innovative spacesuit, detailed in a recent study published in Frontiers in Space Technology, aims to address the challenges faced by astronauts during spacewalks by collecting and filtering urine into potable water. Lead researcher Sofia Etlin from Weill Cornell Medicine, who spearheaded the project, was motivated by the need for a more sustainable and comfortable waste management system for astronauts in space.
