The main base camp for the Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu is undergoing a significant transformation with a deadline set for completion of works by June 20, as per officials. The annual 52-day pilgrimage to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine in south Kashmir is set to commence on June 29 and culminate on August 19. The Yatri Niwas located in Bhagwati Nagar serves as the focal point for pilgrims from all over the country before embarking on their journey to Kashmir to seek blessings at the Amarnath holy cave shrine.
Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and Jammu Additional Director General of Police Anand Jain recently conducted an inspection at the base camp to assess the ongoing preparations. The officials were briefed on the progress of various works, including the upgrading of the entry gate, road resurfacing, parking ground leveling, whitewashing, renovation of washrooms, AC and fan repairs, light installation, and other enhancements within the Yatri Niwas. A workforce of 200 individuals is currently engaged in the rejuvenation efforts at the camp.
During a high-level meeting, the divisional commissioner emphasized the need for the completion of renovation and upgrade works by June 20. Security arrangements were also discussed, with strict directives issued to ensure all necessary measures are in place well ahead of the deadline. Over one lakh devotees have registered for the yatra to the revered shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in the south Kashmir Himalayas.
The pilgrimage can be undertaken through two routes – the traditional 48-km path through Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag and the shorter 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir. As the deadline nears, the authorities are working tirelessly to provide top-notch facilities for the pilgrims, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all participants.
