The controversies surrounding the UGC-NET and NEET-UG exams have raised unease in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other RSS affiliates, including the ABVP, with concerns about the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) role. The Union Education Ministry recently cancelled the UGC-NET 2024 exam after integrity concerns arose. The cancellation followed the NEET-UG 2024 question paper leak investigations in Bihar and Gujarat.
ABVP’s national general secretary, Yagywalkya Shukla, questioned NTA’s credibility, highlighting issues such as delayed question paper distributions and unusual high scores. The ABVP has demanded a CBI investigation into the matter and raised concerns about the grace marks process. The student organization has called for transparency in exams to maintain students’ trust in the system, stressing the importance of millions of dreams associated with these examinations.
In response to the situation, a high-level committee has been formed by the Union government to review and enhance NTA’s structure, processes, and security measures. The committee, consisting of experts from various fields, aims to provide recommendations for improving the credibility of the testing agency. However, the government has not yet decided to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam.
The ABVP, along with educational organizations close to the BJP, have expressed concerns over the fiasco surrounding the exams. The Shiksha Bachao Andolan has called for the cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 and a CBI inquiry into the irregularities. Similarly, the Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas has questioned NTA’s functioning.
Overall, the controversy surrounding the UGC-NET and NEET-UG exams has sparked discussions about the role of NTA and the need for transparency in the examination processes to safeguard the aspirations of students and maintain the integrity of the education system.
