Apple has recently rejected overtures by Meta Platforms to integrate the social networking company’s AI chatbot into the iPhone, as reported by Bloomberg News. The companies had brief talks in March, but discussions did not reach a formal stage, and Apple was not actively planning on integrating Meta’s Llama chatbot into iPhones due to privacy concerns. Apple did not consider Meta’s privacy practices stringent enough for such a partnership, leading to the decision to not move forward. Instead, Apple started discussions with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Alphabet’s Gemini to incorporate these technologies into its products. Apple unveiled its long-awaited AI strategy at its annual developer conference in June, showcasing the integration of ChatGPT and its new ‘Apple Intelligence’ technology across its suite of apps, including virtual assistant Siri. Both Apple and Meta have not responded immediately to requests for comment, but the Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the initial talks between the companies.
