Apple Unveils ‘Apple Intelligence’ AI Features at WWDC 2024

Apple has announced the launch of ‘Apple Intelligence’ at WWDC 2024, introducing a suite of AI features for iPhone, Mac, and other devices. This new initiative includes a more conversational Siri, personalized ‘Genmoji,’ and access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT for more complex queries. The rollout is scheduled for later this year, with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia getting the updates. The AI features will be available exclusively on iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as iPads and Macs with M1 or later chips set to English language.

Apple’s AI capabilities will enhance inter-app actions, manage notifications, automate writing tasks, and summarize text across various applications. Users can adjust the tone of their writing with prompts, reference one app to execute actions in another, and type to interact with Siri. The tech giant emphasizes privacy with many features processing data on-device, resorting to ‘Private Cloud Compute’ for more complex requests. This model ensures user data remains secure and inaccessible on Apple’s servers, with independent code inspections to verify privacy.

Apple’s ‘Genmoji’ feature will create custom emoji-like reactions, while ‘Image Playground’ in iOS 18 facilitates on-the-fly image generation with an app and API accessibility for developers. The Photos app is also AI-enhanced for object searches and background erasure. ChatGPT, powered by GPT-4o, will integrate with Siri for advanced dialogue interactions, prompting user permission before accessing data and delivering responses seamlessly. Users can expect robust AI capabilities in writing tools, image creation, and chat interactions, with privacy safeguards and OpenAI collaboration.
