A popular travel influencer and YouTuber, Leonel Esteban Borroni, was found dead at his home in Argentina just hours after being arrested in connection with a child pornography probe. On May 17, his body was discovered by a relative, hanging from a skylight with his hands and legs bound with plastic ties. Authorities suspect that he took his own life, although autopsy results are still pending.
Leonel, known by his social media username ‘Un Leon Viajero,’ had a significant online following with 164,000 Instagram followers. He frequently shared photos of his motorbike trips to various countries, including Ecuador, Venezuela, and French Guiana. His arrest came after the alleged discovery of child pornography on his electronic devices. Despite being released on bail shortly after his arrest, he refused to answer questions regarding the material.
The investigation was initiated following a tip-off from a US-based agency specializing in combating child exploitation. Additionally, five men and a woman, aged between 20 and 50, were also implicated in the probe. Leonel’s last social media post was two weeks prior to his death, where he bid farewell to some of his followers.
His online presence was marked by his unique travelogues and motorbike diaries, which garnered a large following on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. Before his tragic death, he shared a scheduled video of himself traveling through Suriname. Despite the challenging circumstances surrounding his passing, Leonel’s impact in the travel and social media spheres remains significant.
