Arvind Kejriwal made a strong statement in court during the trial regarding the excise policy case. The Delhi Chief Minister firmly asserted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had fabricated information against him. Kejriwal clarified that he had not accused former minister Manish Sisodia in any of his statements regarding the case. He emphasized that neither the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) nor Sisodia could be held responsible.
The judge acknowledged Kejriwal’s stance, pointing out that the CM’s statements did not implicate Sisodia. Kejriwal’s lawyer, Advocate Vivek Jain, represented his case in court and highlighted that interactions between the CM and MSR lasted briefly and did not involve discussions about the excise policy. Jain argued that the proceedings were being manipulated, citing available statements that had been accessible for some time. He pointed out that individuals accused by the CBI, such as Vijay Nair and Chanpreet Singh, were already on bail.
Jain further argued that a vast number of opinions were considered in the case, including consulting ministers and the public. Even the Lieutenant Governor was engaged, providing seven recommendations approved by the cabinet. Senior Advocate Vikram Chaudhri, opposing the CBI’s arrest of Kejriwal, questioned the timing of the arrest. He insinuated that the authorities waited for the bail order before apprehending Kejriwal, suggesting a preconceived decision. Chaudhri refuted the idea that Kejriwal would influence witnesses, emphasizing that the allegations lacked substantial evidence.

Public Prosecutor DP Singh, representing the CBI, contended that Kejriwal needed to be in custody for the agency to present specific documents and confront him, tasks deemed challenging in judicial custody.
