The weight loss saga surrounding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken a new turn as Tihar jail sources revealed that he has only lost 2 kg instead of the alleged 8.5 kg claimed by AAP. The jail administration has rebutted the claims made by AAP ministers and leaders, stating that such allegations ‘confuse and mislead the public’. Arvind Kejriwal, who has been in prison since April 1, was reported to have weighed 65 kg initially, but his weight gradually decreased to 61.5 kg as per the recent health report shared by Tihar sources. The AAP has been vocal about their concerns regarding Kejriwal’s health, with Atishi claiming that his sugar levels had dropped below 50 mg/dL multiple times in prison.
The response from Tihar jail comes in the midst of allegations of a conspiracy by the Bharatiya Janata Party to harm Kejriwal’s health. AAP MP Sanjay Singh raised concerns about the chief minister’s well-being, asserting that he could be at risk of a coma or stroke if his sugar levels drop dangerously low while he sleeps. The medical board of AIIMS has been closely monitoring Kejriwal’s health, with his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, in regular contact with the board.
Kejriwal’s weight loss has been a subject of contention, with the prison authorities providing him home-cooked food, which he has been returning portions of since June 3. The Tihar jail sources also clarified that making a patient’s medical report public is an offense and reiterated that the chief minister’s health is being closely monitored and treated appropriately. The CM, who was arrested in connection with a money laundering case and a corruption case in March and June respectively, was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in the former case, but he remains in jail for the latter.
