The flood situation in Assam has taken a turn for the worse, affecting over 16.50 lakh people in 29 districts with major rivers flowing above the danger level. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit flood-affected areas in Maligaon, Pandu Port, and Temple Ghat areas in Guwahati on July 4 to assess the situation. In a late-night meeting, Sarma directed District Commissioners to provide relief, complete rehabilitation claims by August 15, and ensure accurate information for adequate relief measures. Cabinet ministers will also be present in flood-affected districts for the next three days.

The death toll from this year’s floods, landslides, and storms has risen to 56, with three individuals reported missing. The hardest hit districts include Dhubri, with over 2.23 lakh people affected, followed by Darrang and Lakhimpur. The Brahmaputra and its tributaries are flowing above danger levels, causing widespread flooding. The Barak river and its tributaries are also overflowing, adding to the flood crisis.

Despite efforts to manage the situation, the flood impact remains severe in various parts of Assam, prompting urgent action to provide relief and support to those affected. The relentless monsoon rains have exacerbated the flooding, highlighting the need for coordinated disaster response and long-term flood management strategies in the region.
