The sanctum sanctorum at the Ram temple in Ayodhya experienced water leakage from the roof after the first heavy showers since it opened to the public, as reported by the chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das on Monday.
Alleging negligence in the temple’s construction, Acharya Das expressed his concerns over the lack of a proper drainage system, which led to water accumulation on the premises. He urged the temple authorities to take necessary corrective measures to address the issue, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
Acharya Satyendra Das highlighted the heavy leakage from the roof of the temple, particularly affecting the place where the priest sits in front of Ram Lalla’s idol and where VIP darshan takes place. He criticized the engineers involved in the construction, questioning why such a significant issue arose despite their expertise.
Furthermore, the heavy rains on Saturday night resulted in severe waterlogging on Rampath road and its surrounding lanes in Ayodhya. This led to sewer water entering houses and the collapse of newly constructed roads at some locations, creating additional challenges for the residents of the area.
In response to the situation, Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi initiated damage control measures and deployed municipality teams to remove water from the affected houses. However, attempts to seek a response from top officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) did not yield results.
The incident at the Ram temple also drew political attention, with the Congress accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of corruption in the temple construction and civic facilities development in Ayodhya. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai criticized the BJP for alleged corruption in various projects, including the temple construction, and highlighted the structural issues faced by the temple due to inadequate drainage systems.
The concerns raised by the chief priest and the subsequent response from local authorities and political figures indicate the gravity of the situation at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. With ongoing construction work and monsoons approaching, addressing the leakage issue and ensuring the structural integrity of the temple remain key priorities for all stakeholders involved.
