The political tension between the BJP and Congress in Kerala escalated over a social media post regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi\’s meeting with Pope Francis during the G7 Summit. The BJP accused the Congress of running derogatory content on its X handle, insinuating that it was being managed by ‘radical Islamists or Urban Naxals.’ The grand-old party posted a picture of PM Modi with the Pope along with a sarcastic comment, which irked the BJP state chief K Surendran. He called out AICC general secretary K C Venugopal and questioned if party leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi endorsed such content.

In response to Surendran’s criticism, the Congress clapped back through its X handle with a sarcastic message, wishing ‘better luck next time’ to the BJP state chief and others associated with ‘Modi ka parivar.’ The post emphasized Pope Francis’s positive remarks on making people smile. This exchange highlighted the ongoing political rivalry between the two parties, fueled by social media engagements that often veer into mockery and taunting.

During the Outreach session of the G7 Summit in Italy, Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Pope Francis to visit India. The two leaders shared warm interactions while discussing topics like Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean. The public exchanges on social media underscored how political narratives can quickly escalate into confrontational situations, reflecting the deep-rooted ideological differences between the BJP and Congress in the state of Kerala.
