Amidst a political storm in West Bengal, Santanu Sinha, a BJP worker, has retracted his allegations of sexual exploitation against Amit Malviya, the BJP’s IT cell chief. Sinha, who initially accused Malviya of misconduct, clarified that his post was misunderstood and was not intended to malign Malviya or the BJP. The controversy erupted after Sinha’s post alleging sexual exploitation by Malviya started circulating on social media. The Congress party also got involved, demanding Malviya’s removal from his position immediately for an independent probe to be conducted into the matter. In response, Malviya filed a defamation suit against Sinha for Rs 10 crore, demanding the removal of the derogatory post within 72 hours. Despite the legal notice, Sinha maintained that his post was not defamatory and expressed regret only if it was misinterpreted. The situation escalated further with allegations and counter-allegations between the two parties. This development comes amidst a backdrop of political turmoil in West Bengal, where allegations of misdeeds and honey traps involving party leaders have been surfacing. The BJP worker’s retraction of the accusations has added another layer of complexity to an already fraught political landscape in the state.
