The recent decision by the Congress party to field Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Wayanad has sparked controversy, with the BJP taking a jibe at the move. BJP state chief K Surendran and senior leader V Muraleedharan criticized the Congress leadership for what they perceive as a dynastic move. Surendran, who contested against Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha polls in the hill constituency, highlighted that the Congress is serving the interests of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

The BJP leaders suggested that the Congress might consider Priyanka’s husband, Robert Vadra, as a candidate in the upcoming by-poll in the Palakkad assembly segment. They alleged that the people of Wayanad had been cheated by the Congress leadership. The BJP’s criticism reflects the ongoing political dynamics in Kerala ahead of the upcoming elections.

In response to the criticism, senior Congress leader V D Satheesan defended Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into Wayanad. Satheesan emphasized that the people of Kerala, not just Wayanad, would welcome Priyanka as they did her brother, Rahul Gandhi. He highlighted Priyanka’s role as a frontline campaigner against divisive forces in the country.

The Congress’s decision on the prestigious Amethi and Rae Bareli seats in Uttar Pradesh has also raised eyebrows. Rahul Gandhi’s switch to Rae Bareli and the selection of Kishori Lal Sharma for Amethi have been significant in the party’s electoral strategy. The BJP has criticized Rahul Gandhi’s decision not to contest from Amethi, calling it a lack of confidence in his own campaign.

The political landscape in India, especially in states like Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, is witnessing intense competition and strategic moves ahead of the upcoming elections. The Congress’s nomination choices and the BJP’s critical response indicate the complexities of Indian politics and the ever-evolving dynamics in the country.
