As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contemplates on who will be Odisha’s new Chief Minister, the party has fixed the oath-taking date and venue amidst speculation. The oath-taking ceremony for Odisha’s new CM is scheduled to be held at 6 pm on Monday, June 10 at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. This comes after the BJP’s impressive victory in the Odisha Assembly elections, securing 78 out of 147 seats and ending Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year reign. The Lok Sabha polls also saw the BJP dominating in Odisha with 21 seats, leaving the Opposition far behind.

The BJP’s legislature party meeting is set to take place in the capital on Monday at 10 AM ahead of the swearing-in ceremony. While the BJP is yet to finalize its CM candidate, names like Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, MLAs Suresh Pujari, Jual Oram, and former CAG Girish Chandra Murmu are making rounds as potential contenders. The party had promised that the new chief minister would be a ‘bhoomiputra’ (son of the soil) during their poll campaigns.

Governor Raghubar Das is expected to administer the oath of office to the new Chief Minister, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah likely to attend the ceremony. The BJP’s 78-member legislature party is gearing up to announce the name of the new Chief Minister, marking a significant moment as it will be the first time a saffron party member takes up this role in Odisha. The event is set to be a momentous occasion as the state eagerly awaits to see who will lead Odisha into a new era of governance.
