Chandrababu Naidu, the Telugu Desam Party chief, made a triumphant return to the Andhra Pradesh assembly today, after an absence of 31 months. The emotional exit in November 2021, triggered by abusive comments about his wife, culminated in his promise to re-enter the assembly only as Chief Minister, a promise he fulfilled following a landslide victory in the latest assembly elections.
Mr. Naidu’s party, TDP, clinched an impressive 135 seats in the 175-member assembly, with allies Jana Sena and BJP securing 21 and 8 seats respectively. The entire assembly welcomed him back with standing ovation and warm regards as he took his place as the Chief Minister for the fourth time.
During his absence, the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh underwent significant changes, notably with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP dominating the 2019 state elections, securing 151 out of 175 seats.
