Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu shared a special moment after the Telugu leader was this morning sworn in as the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister for the fourth time. The alliance between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked a significant development in the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh. The BJP had fought the Andhra elections in an alliance with the TDP, led by Mr. Naidu. After his oath of office, Mr. Naidu walked up to PM Modi and the two leaders shared a tight hug, symbolizing the formation of a TDP-BJP coalition government in the southern state. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several cabinet colleagues of PM Modi, including Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, and JP Nadda. The TDP-BJP-Jana Sena alliance emerged victorious in both the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha polls, winning a total of 164 out of the 175 seats in the Assembly, with the TDP securing 135 seats, Jana Sena 21, and BJP 8. In the national elections, they secured 21 out of Andhra’s 25 seats and significantly impacted the political landscape. The BJP formed a coalition government at the center with the support of allies like the TDP, a move crucial for achieving the majority mark. The TDP now holds a cabinet berth and a Minister of State post in the Modi 3.0 cabinet. The alliance between the BJP and TDP marked Mr. Naidu’s return to the NDA after a gap of six years, highlighting the significance of the partnership in the new government setup.
