A chaotic scene unfolded in Ankleshwar, Gujarat’s Bharuch district, as approximately 800 individuals showed up for walk-in interviews hosted by a company offering 40 vacancies. The situation quickly turned grim as a video captured hundreds of job aspirants queuing up outside a hotel for the interview. The sheer number of candidates led to a stampede-like chaos, causing the railings around the building to collapse due to the pushing and shoving. Photos and videos circulating on social media highlighted the struggles of aspirants carrying backpacks trying to make their way onto a ramp, resulting in some falling off when the railing finally gave way. Fortunately, no injuries were reported despite the chaotic situation, according to news agency PTI. Bharuch Superintendent of Police Mayur Chavda explained that the company had organized walk-in interviews for nearly 40 vacancies in five different roles, booking a hall in a hotel in Ankleshwar. Originally expecting around 150 candidates, the company was overwhelmed when 800 individuals showed up, leading to the officials having to shut the doors to control the crowd. This drastic measure was what led to the viral video capturing the stampede-like situation. The incident sparked a debate between the opposition Congress and the ruling BJP. While the Congress criticized the incident, calling it a display of the ‘Gujarat model’ of development, the BJP refuted the claims and accused the Congress of trying to defame the state. The situation escalated further with online posts by the Congress and BJP taking jabs at each other, adding fuel to the political fire. The incident in Gujarat serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by job-seekers and the competition for limited opportunities, reflecting the broader issue of unemployment and the struggles faced by individuals in the job market.
