In the midst of the rush to file income tax returns before the deadline on July 31, a Bengaluru-based chartered accountant (CA) has humorously addressed Infosys founder Narayana Murthy’s famous call for young professionals to work 70 hours a week for the betterment of the country. Venting on social media, the CA known as Basu (@Basappamv) highlighted the struggles faced by tax professionals with the income tax portal developed by Infosys. Despite dedicating more than 70 hours a week to work, they encounter issues with the functionality of the portal.
Basu’s message to Narayana Murthy humorously suggests that if tax professionals are working overtime as per his advice, the Infosys team should dedicate even just an hour a week to ensure the smooth running of the income tax portal. This post resonated with many users, including those who shared similar experiences of technical slowdowns and issues with the portal.
Apart from Basu, other chartered accountants have also noted technical glitches while trying to download important documents like the Annual Information Statement (AIS) and Tax Information Statement (TIS), causing delays in the income tax return filing process. The delayed access to crucial tax information is attributed to various factors, including technical difficulties, the dynamic nature of the AIS, and delays in the sharing of Form 16 by some companies.
When investigated by business authorities, several chartered-accountancy firms have confirmed the adverse impact of technical snags on the portal server, leading to delays in the filing of tax returns for individual taxpayers. Amidst these challenges, the hope is for a smoother experience for all tax professionals using the income tax portal developed by Infosys to streamline the tax-filing process in India.
