Delhi is set to experience scorching temperatures as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a spike in the mercury levels later in the week. The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, which is a degree above normal. According to the IMD, Delhi is expected to witness a rise in temperatures, with the mercury likely to touch around 43 degrees Celsius by Thursday. By Friday and Saturday, the maximum temperature is forecasted to soar even higher, reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius. Additionally, strong winds ranging from 25 to 35 kmph are expected between the specified dates.

Apart from the soaring daytime temperatures, nights are also expected to get warmer with the minimum temperature gradually rising. On Monday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.5 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees above normal. The IMD anticipates this minimum temperature to increase to 29 degrees Celsius by Saturday, eventually settling around 30 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The IMD bulletin highlights that many parts of northwest India are at risk of experiencing a three to five-degree surge in maximum temperatures over the coming days. This spike in temperatures has pushed the IMD to issue a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi on Saturday, with predicted maximum temperatures of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 31 degrees Celsius. Earlier in the season, Delhi had experienced a high of 41.7 degrees Celsius, which is over a notch above the season’s normal, emphasizing the severity of the impending heatwave.

Delhi residents are advised to brace for a scorching week ahead as the climate experts signal a significant rise in temperatures. Amidst the soaring mercury levels, it is essential for individuals to take necessary precautions to stay safe and hydrated during this period of intense heatwave.
