The city of Delhi is gearing up for the upcoming Muharram processions, and the Delhi Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to ensure smooth movement across the city. The Tazia processions, a significant aspect of Muharram, will take place on July 16-17, with various routes mapped out for the processions to follow.
Starting from locations like Chhatta Shahzad, Kalan Mahal, and Old Police Chowki, the processions will wind through key areas such as Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Hauz Qazi, and more. Tazias from different regions like Nizamuddin, Okhla, and Mehrauli will also make their way directly to Karbala.
The traffic advisory highlights that buses on specific routes will be diverted and regulated to accommodate the processions. Areas like Mathura Road, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, and Pankha Road are expected to witness disruptions due to these events.
Furthermore, the advisory mentions that traffic movement will be controlled on prominent roads like Jama Masjid Road, Chawri Bazar Road, and Ajmeri Gate Road from noon to 9:30 pm on both days to ensure safety and smooth flow of the processions.
In addition to the traffic advisory in Delhi, the state of Kerala has declared a public holiday to mark Muharram. Schools, government offices, and banks will be closed on these significant days as a mark of respect and observance.
The Kerala government’s decision aligns with the cultural and religious sentiments associated with Muharram, signifying the importance of the occasion for the people in the state.
With these preparations and declarations in place, the communities in Delhi and Kerala are all set to observe Muharram in a respectful and organized manner, paying tribute to the historical significance and cultural traditions associated with this time of the year.
