Delhi Water Crisis: Residents Struggle for Water Amid Scorching Heat

The national capital of Delhi continues to grapple with a severe water crisis as the heatwave conditions persist, leaving residents in dire straits. With temperatures soaring, residents are forced to rely on water tankers to meet their daily water needs. Videos shared by news agency ANI showcased a chaotic scene in Okhla Phase 2 area, where residents scrambled after a water tanker, some even jumping queues and climbing on top of the vehicle with their pipes. Similarly, in Sanjay Camp in Chanakyapuri area, residents were seen with their buckets, highlighting the desperation for water.

In a bid to address the escalating crisis, the Arvind Kejriwal government has approached the Supreme Court seeking additional water supply from neighboring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh. This move has led to a political clash between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party, particularly regarding water supply from Haryana.

Residents in various affected areas such as Chanakyapuri and Geeta Colony have expressed their struggles amid the ongoing crisis. Long queues of people were spotted awaiting tankers to arrive, with some resorting to climbing atop the vehicles to fill their vessels. Deepak Srivastava, a resident in Chanakyapuri, highlighted the gravity of the situation, mentioning that the number of tankers has significantly decreased, intensifying the water shortage.

Despite the challenges faced by residents, there seems to be a lack of sufficient action from the authorities, prompting further frustration. Suggestions have been made for collaborative efforts to address the crisis, with appeals from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to the BJP to set aside political differences and work towards resolving the water scarcity issue. The situation underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to ensure adequate water supply for the residents of Delhi, especially during the scorching summer heat.
