In the wake of the tragic deaths in the Kallakurichi hooch incident, the DMK has pointed fingers at the BJP, specifically blaming BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai for the catastrophic event. The DMK leader RS Bharathi accused the BJP-led alliance in Puducherry of sourcing the methanol used to produce the illicit liquor, which claimed the lives of over 50 individuals in Tamil Nadu.

During a press conference, DMK’s Organisational Secretary RS Bharathi directly pointed at Annamalai, calling it a ‘planned conspiracy’. Bharathi’s accusations were triggered by Annamalai’s earlier demand for Chief Minister MK Stalin’s resignation over the tragedy.

The blame game intensified as Bharathi emphasized that the BJP should take responsibility for the incident, stating that raw materials came from Puducherry and holding the BJP liable for the tragedy. Bharathi asserted that the BJP had orchestrated the event, labeling it a planned conspiracy by Annamalai, hinting at political motives behind the heinous act.

Moreover, Bharathi questioned the accountability of BJP leaders and ministers, highlighting past incidents where resignations were not tendered in the face of grave tragedies. Amidst the accusations, the death toll in the Kallakurichi hooch incident rose to 53, with dozens still in critical condition, creating a somber atmosphere in the region.

The aftermath of the tragedy witnessed political upheaval, with AIADMK announcing a State-wide protest against the DMK government. AIADMK’s Edappadi K. Palaniswami condemned the law and order situation, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin over the incident.

The DMK government faced criticism from various quarters, including PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss, who alleged links between the spurious liquor supplier and DMK MLAs. Similarly, other leaders like T.T.V. Dhinakaran and Vijay voiced concerns over the failure of the State government and demanded stringent action.

As the political blame game intensified, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin appointed a one-man commission to investigate the tragedy, aiming to unravel the events leading to the grave outcome. The Madras High Court also stepped in, demanding answers from the state government and ordering a detailed action report by June 26.

In conclusion, the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy has not only resulted in a significant loss of lives but has also sparked political confrontations and legal scrutiny, shedding light on the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
