The city of Guwahati in Assam has been submerged for days due to heavy flooding, leading to a heart-wrenching situation where a father, Hiralal Sarkar, continues to search for his eight-year-old son, Abhinash, who fell into a drain. Despite it being three days since the incident, Hiralal remains relentless in his pursuit to find his son. Using an iron rod to search in the sewage, he could only recover his son’s sandals, leaving him distraught. The father, determined to find his child, handed over the slippers to authorities for verification. Abhinash fell into the drain while returning home with his father amidst heavy rain on a fateful evening. Describing the harrowing experience, Hiralal recalls seeing his son’s hand in the drain and diving in but failing to rescue him. The emotional father has vowed not to rest until he brings his son back home, manifesting his commitment by wading through slush and garbage in search of the missing boy. State authorities have launched a widespread search operation, involving various agencies, to assist Hiralal in locating his son. The operation includes the deployment of sniffer dogs, super suckers, and excavators. Concrete slabs covering parts of the drain downstream are being lifted to facilitate the search effort. Chief Minister Himanta Sarma has directed rescue teams to intensify their operations to locate the missing boy. Meanwhile, floods in Assam have taken a toll, claiming six lives in the last 24 hours, with a significant population remaining at risk. In Guwahati, several areas continue to be submerged under water, further exacerbating the grim situation. This ongoing crisis emphasizes the urgency to find young Abhinash and bring relief to his distressed family.
