Google is introducing a new ‘Listen to this page’ feature on Google Chrome for Android, offering users in India the ability to have web pages read aloud to them. The feature, which was first discovered by 9to5Google on Chrome version 125, provides customization options such as playback speed and voice selection. Users can access this feature by updating their Google Chrome to the latest version and tapping on ‘Listen to this page’ in the three dots menu.
This new feature is a significant step towards accessibility and convenience for Android users, allowing them to multitask while listening to web content. The Listen to this page option can be found below the Translate option in the Chrome Android app’s menu. Once selected, users can enjoy a podcast-like experience, with controls like play, pause, rewind, fast forward, and the ability to skip 10 seconds. Users can also choose from four different voices – Ruby, River, Field, and Moss – along with various languages, including Hindi and Bengali.
While the feature is not yet available on all websites, the introduction of ‘Listen to this page’ streamlines the process of having web content read aloud. Previously, users could only rely on the Google Assistant for this feature, which often redirected them out of the Chrome application and offered limited customization. With this new update, Android users can enjoy a seamless reading experience within the Chrome browser.
To utilize the Listen to this page feature, users simply need to update their Chrome app, open a webpage of their choice, tap on the three-dot menu, and select ‘Listen to this page.’ From there, they can adjust playback speed and voice settings to suit their preferences. The rollout of this feature is part of Chrome version 125 and may take some time to reach all users in India. Overall, this new feature enhances the browsing experience on Chrome for Android, making it more inclusive and user-friendly.
