Google’s AI-powered research tool, NotebookLM, originally launched in the summer of 2023, has now been upgraded with new capabilities and extended accessibility. In a recent announcement, Google shared that NotebookLM is now powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro, offering users an enhanced experience with a range of new features. The tool, designed to assist with research and writing, is now available in over 200 countries and territories worldwide.
Unlike many other AI-powered tools that draw from a wide range of general knowledge, NotebookLM operates by utilizing only the resources provided by users. Initially accepting files such as transcripts, research notes, and corporate documents from Google Docs or in PDF format, the tool now supports uploads of Google Slides and web URLs.
Among the new features introduced, users can now pose questions about images, charts, and diagrams, with the option to include images in citations as additional evidence. Inline citations have also been improved, allowing users to navigate directly to supporting passages for verification. Additionally, the Notebook Guide feature has been enhanced to convert sources into various clear formats like FAQs and briefing docs, offering a more structured approach to organizing curated notes.
Google continues to enhance NotebookLM’s functionality to provide users with a personalized and efficient research tool that integrates seamlessly with their workflow. Stay tuned for more updates on how NotebookLM evolves to meet the needs of users around the world.
