The Union government has taken a significant step by approving a 40 per cent hardship and risk allowance for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescuers. This decision was announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday, acknowledging the challenging operations undertaken by the NDRF personnel.
Shah highlighted this development while welcoming a 35-member expedition team of the NDRF that successfully scaled the 21,625-foot-high Mt Manirang in Himachal Pradesh. The 40 per cent risk and hardship allowance, approved by the government, fulfills a long-pending demand and is set to benefit all 16,000 personnel of the force.
The newly approved allowance will be granted in addition to the regular salaries of the rescuers. Noteworthy is the fact that special forces like the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Special Protection Group (SPG) receive a 25 per cent hardship allowance due to the specialized nature of their duties.
This move signifies a significant recognition of the challenging and crucial role played by the NDRF in disaster response and mitigation efforts. It not only enhances the morale and well-being of the rescuers but also acknowledges their dedication and service towards ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.
The emphasis on capacity building and training, as well as the inclusion of sports culture within the Central Armed Police Forces and special organizations like the NDRF, underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of these crucial response units. The decision to mandate participation in national and international tournaments further highlights a holistic approach towards fostering skills and spirit of competitiveness among the personnel.
As the nation continues to face various challenges and calamities, the government’s support and recognition of the contribution made by organizations like the NDRF play a pivotal role in strengthening the overall disaster management framework. The allocation of funds towards capacity building and training, along with the recent approval of risk and hardship allowance, reflects a proactive approach towards ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of disaster response operations in the country.
