In a recent development, Gurugram DCP Traffic has issued instructions for the traffic police personnel not to stop any vehicles at night and refrain from issuing challans. The order comes after receiving complaints of unnecessary vehicle checks and harassment faced by drivers during nighttime. The DCP has emphasized that only with the permission of higher authorities can a challan be issued, and strict action will be taken against any personnel violating the rules.

The letter dated May 28 from DCP Traffic Virendra Vij outlined the new set of instructions for traffic inspectors and employees. It stated that no vehicle should be stopped at night, and if a challan is necessary as per the Motor Vehicles Act, it should only be issued after obtaining permission from the concerned officer. Failure to comply with the orders will result in immediate departmental action against the traffic police officer.

The primary focus behind the directive is to ensure smoother traffic movement at night in Gurugram district and mitigate inconvenience faced by commuters. Traffic personnel are expected to guide and help drivers, arrange safe routes, and handle road accidents efficiently. Unfortunately, despite the instructions, some individuals have been flouting traffic rules, driving recklessly, and violating speed limits at night.

DCP Virendra Vij has reiterated the police’s commitment to strict action against drunk drivers during nighttime to prevent major accidents. Regular campaigns are conducted to address drunk driving, and efforts are being made to curb careless driving practices in Gurugram. With the new directive in place, the Gurugram Traffic Police aims to prioritize traffic management and streamline nighttime operations for the safety and convenience of all road users.
