Hemant Soren Sworn In as Jharkhand CM After Predecessor’s Resignation

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s executive chief Hemant Soren has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand following the resignation of his predecessor Champai Soren. The swearing-in ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, came after Governor C P Radhakrishnan invited Hemant Soren to form the government. This development occurred a day after the ruling coalition’s 45 MLAs elected Hemant Soren as their leader. Hemant was released from jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to a land scam in Ranchi. The court, noting “reasons to believe that he was not guilty of the offence,” paved the way for Hemant Soren’s return as the Chief Minister.

In his post-oath statement, Hemant Soren expressed gratitude towards the Governor and emphasized that the end of the opposition’s alleged anti-democracy conspiracy had commenced. He highlighted the commitment of the current Mahagathbandhan government towards the welfare of the people and the state since 2019. Hemant Soren’s return to office marks a significant political development in Jharkhand, reinstating him as the 13th Chief Minister of the state.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader’s reappointment comes after a period of political upheaval, with the previous Chief Minister Champai Soren resigning on July 3, paving the way for Hemant’s return to the helm. Hemant Soren, son of JMM supremo Shibu Soren, has been a pivotal figure in Jharkhand politics, leading the party to success in the previous assembly elections in alliance with the Congress and RJD. His swearing-in ceremony signifies a new chapter in the state’s administration and governance.

The induction of Hemant Soren as the Chief Minister has generated both acclaim and criticism. While supporters view his leadership as an opportunity for progress and development, critics, such as BJP Rajya Sabha member Deepak Prakash, have raised concerns about familism in the state government. Amidst these contrasting sentiments, Hemant Soren’s tenure as the Chief Minister is set to shape the future trajectory of Jharkhand’s political landscape.

As Hemant Soren embarks on his third term as Chief Minister, the state braces itself for a period of transition and transformation under his leadership. With a vision to make Jharkhand the number one state, Hemant Soren’s governance is anticipated to focus on addressing the challenges faced by the people and working towards sustainable progress and prosperity.
