The recent Hezbollah rocket barrage on Kiryat Shmona has left the city in chaos and fear. At least two people were lightly wounded after Hezbollah fired a barrage of several dozen rockets toward Kiryat Shmona, hitting several buildings and causing power outages. The Ziv Medical Center received two patients injured by shock waves from the rocket fire, while an intensive care ambulance belonging to Magen David Adom was also hit by rocket shrapnel. As a precaution, several roads in towns near the border were closed by the IDF.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was in response to an earlier Israeli airstrike on Meiss El Jabal in southern Lebanon. Lebanese media reported civilian casualties from the Israeli airstrike, but Hezbollah later claimed that some of the casualties were militants. Following the rocket barrage on Kiryat Shmona, a second barrage of about 40 rockets was fired toward the northern Golan Heights and northern Galilee, causing wildfires in open areas.
Organizations representing residents of northern Israel have expressed concerns about a ceasefire agreement being discussed between Hezbollah and Israel. They demand a change in the security situation and the removal of threats on the border, as well as unity among local leaders to represent all residents. In response to the rocket attacks, Israel Air Force jets struck Hezbollah terror targets in southern Lebanon, including military structures and terrorist infrastructure. The IDF also targeted a site near Kfarchouba with artillery fire to eliminate a threat.
