The recent bypoll results in Himachal Pradesh have solidified Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s authority over the ruling Congress party in the state. The results of the bypolls in Dehra and Nalagarh have not only ensured the safety of Sukhu’s government but also boosted the Congress majority in the state. With victories in these constituencies, the Congress now holds 40 out of 68 seats in the assembly. The results also displayed Sukhu’s ability to navigate and win in the face of rebel MLAs and independents who had switched sides to BJP. The victories in the bypolls have been a significant win for Sukhu, especially with his wife Kamlesh Thakur’s victory in Dehra by a substantial margin. This victory not only marks a historic win for the Congress in Dehra but also solidifies Sukhu’s position within the party and the state. Despite some setbacks in the Lok Sabha elections, the recent bypoll results have helped Sukhu quell dissent and strengthen his grip over the party. The bypoll outcomes have also highlighted the rejection of BJP’s tactics by the people of Himachal Pradesh. The victories in the bypolls have not only empowered Sukhu but have also positioned the Congress party in a stronger stance in the state assembly.
