The recent heavy rainfall in Hyderabad on Sunday night, followed by inflows from nalas, has resulted in a significant rise in water levels in Hussainsagar on Monday. Hussainsagar’s Full Storage Level (FTL) is 513.41 meters, and it has now reached 513.40 meters on Monday. The increase in water levels has prompted officials from the Irrigation department to be more vigilant as the MeT department forecasts more rainfall for the next few days. The department has issued instructions for residents living near Hussainsagar surplus nala and adjoining low-lying areas to be cautious until the end of the monsoon. Once inflows reach the FTL, the water will naturally flow downstream through 11 vents to Hussainsagar. Various nalas like Picket in Secunderabad, Langer Houz, Kukatpally, and Begumpet connect to Hussainsagar, leading to the significant rise in water levels. With the increased inflows, the Irrigation department has already opened a vent from the spillway to release rainwater. To manage the situation, the department is prepared to handle any rise in inflows to Hussainsagar from nalas. The tourism department had requested to maintain the FTL levels up to 513.20 meters in Hussainsagar to address problems faced in operating boats due to lower water levels.
