The Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent has landed at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Darwin, Australia to participate in Exercise Pitch Black 2024. Scheduled to be conducted from July 12 to August 2, 2024, this biennial, multinational exercise is the largest in its 43-year history, with participation from 20 countries, over 140 aircraft, and 4,400 military personnel from various air forces. The exercise will focus on Large Force Employment warfare, aiming to strengthen international cooperation and enhance experience with the IAF’s Su-30 MKI fighters operating alongside other advanced fighter aircraft.
The IAF contingent consists of over 150 highly skilled air warriors, including pilots, engineers, technicians, controllers, and subject matter experts. They will be operating the Su-30 MKI multirole fighters, along with the C-17 Globemaster and IL-78 Air-to-Air refueling aircraft in combat roles. This participation will provide the IAF with the opportunity for force integration with other nations and exchange of best practices.
Exercise Pitch Black 24 involves some of the most advanced air combat capabilities worldwide, flown and supported by a highly skilled workforce in a challenging training environment. The exercise provides an excellent opportunity for participating nations to strengthen their ability to deploy over long distances, support integrated operations in the Indo-Pacific region, and build strong aviation associations.
This significant collaboration underscores the importance of international partnerships in enhancing military capabilities, promoting cooperation, and fostering mutual learning among air forces. The IAF’s participation in Exercise Pitch Black 24 signifies India’s commitment to global security and strengthening relationships with other nations through shared training, experiences, and expertise.
