IMD Predicts Heavy Rains in Delhi and Northeast India: Latest Updates

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted widespread heavy rainfall in north and northeast India over the next five days. Recent rainfall in the national capital on Thursday led to significant traffic disruptions in various areas, with showers occurring throughout the day. According to the IMD’s noon update, light rain and drizzle are expected in select areas of South Delhi and South-East Delhi, including Akshardham, Lodi Road, Nehru Stadium, and more.

In the last 24 hours, Safdarjung recorded 9.2 mm of rainfall, Lodhi Road 7.4 mm, Ridge 5.6 mm, Palam 17.4 mm, and Ayanagar 40.8 mm. The IMD further forecasts cloudy skies and occasional light rain until July 10.

Despite making slow progress during mid-June, the southwest monsoon has now covered the entire country six days ahead of the normal date. The flood situation in Assam has worsened, affecting over 1.65 million people in 29 districts as of Thursday. A total of 48 flood-related deaths have been reported across Assam and Manipur, with Assam being more severely affected. Kamrup (Metro) district is on high alert due to rising water levels in several rivers, leading to widespread flooding.

The flood-affected areas include districts in Assam like Barpeta, Biswanath, Dhubri, Kamrup, and many more. The IMD’s latest weather bulletin predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall in Northwest and Central India, isolated very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, and more forecasts for specific regions over the next few days.
