Monsoon season in India brings with it a mix of relief and challenges, and according to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Northwest & East India over the next five days. The official release from the IMD mentions that Northwest and Central India will witness widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Regions such as Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Punjab, East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall during specific time frames. Moreover, certain areas may face isolated very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, including Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh in the early days of July.

Additionally, IMD highlights that Konkan & Goa, Kerala & Mahe, Karnataka State will also observe isolated heavy rainfall during the forecast period. Furthermore, regions like Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch, and Gujarat are expected to receive heavy rainfall from July 4 to July 5 due to the influence of a cyclonic circulation over Manipur extending to northeast Madhya Pradesh. For East and Northeast India, fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is predicted over the next five days.

The forecast also includes isolated heavy rainfall projections for Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on specific dates in early July. Notably, Arunachal Pradesh is likely to witness isolated extremely heavy rainfall on the 5th and 6th of July, while Assam and Meghalaya could experience heavy rainfall from the 4th to the 6th of July.

IMD emphasizes that various regions in South India such as Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, Gujarat State will observe fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall. Moreover, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Interior Karnataka; isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is forecasted for Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Rayalaseema, and Telangana over the next 5 days.
