India’s cricket team is gearing up for an enthralling series against Sri Lanka, featuring three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The matches are scheduled to take place in late July and early August, with Pallekele and Colombo set to host the T20Is and ODIs respectively. This series is of significant importance as it marks the first assignment for the newly appointed head coaches of both teams.
Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s interim head coach, while the former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir, is set to begin his coaching journey with the Indian team. The series will kick off with back-to-back T20Is at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on July 26 and 27. Following the T20Is, the action will move to the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo for the ODIs starting on August 1, with a two-day gap between each match.
It is worth noting that the last time India faced Sri Lanka in a men’s T20I was in January 2023. This upcoming series holds the promise of intense competition and showcases the talents of both teams under the guidance of their new coaches. Additionally, this will be India’s second T20I assignment since their triumphant victory in the T20 World Cup, with the team currently on tour in Zimbabwe.
Sri Lankan players, on the other hand, have been actively participating in the Lanka Premier League 2024 after their early exit from the T20 World Cup. The cricketing world is eagerly anticipating the clash between these Asian cricketing giants in what is expected to be a thrilling series filled with exciting moments and top-notch performances by both teams.
