India to Host First-Ever International Solar Festival in September 2024

India is gearing up to host its inaugural International Solar Festival in September 2024. The International Solar Alliance (ISA) will organize this landmark event in Delhi on September 5 and 6, marking a significant step towards promoting solar energy globally. The festival aims to showcase the pivotal role of solar energy in empowering communities and ensuring universal access to energy.

The Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, highlighted India’s ambitious target of installing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. He emphasized the predominant role of solar energy in achieving this target, with a massive 300 GW dedicated to solar power. Bhalla underscored the importance of quadrupling India’s solar capacity within the next six years to meet the growing energy demands.

The director general of the International Solar Alliance, Ajay Mathur, stressed the urgency of addressing climate change and the profound opportunities presented by solar energy. Mathur emphasized how solar power can enhance local economies, reduce energy imports, and cut down emissions, all while providing reliable electricity to remote rural populations. The festival will serve as a platform to celebrate success stories and promote the benefits of solar energy adoption.

The International Solar Festival will witness participation from various countries and international organizations committed to advancing solar power adoption worldwide. With a focus on setting up solar projects in countries severely impacted by climate change, particularly in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the ISA aims to unlock significant investments in solar energy by 2030.

India’s leadership in renewable energy transition will be prominently highlighted during the festival, reinforcing the country’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy initiatives. The event will convene global leaders, institutions, and stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions, foster technological innovation in the solar sector, and raise public awareness about the importance of mitigating climate change through solar power.

As the world gears up to transition towards a renewable energy future, the International Solar Festival in Delhi promises to be a pivotal event that showcases India’s leadership in advancing solar energy solutions and driving global sustainability efforts.
