Indian 2, the much-anticipated film starring Kamal Haasan, has been making waves in the Indian box office scene. Released on July 12, 2024, the movie had a solid opening day, raking in around $3 million across all languages. However, the film saw a significant drop in collections over the weekend, indicating a struggle to maintain momentum.
The third day collection for Indian 2 stood at $1.8 million, marking a notable decline from its opening day performance. The film’s total domestic collection currently stands at $7 million, with the Tamil version contributing $4.9 million, the Telugu version bringing in $1.6 million, and the Hindi version adding $454 thousand.
Despite garnering mixed reviews from critics and audiences, the star power of Kamal Haasan could not completely elevate the film’s box office success. Indian 2’s clash with Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, a remake of the National Award-winning Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, may have also impacted its performance.
The sequel to the 1996 hit film Indian, Indian 2 is directed by Shankar and sees Kamal Haasan reprise his iconic role as Senapathy, a freedom fighter fighting corruption. The movie also features Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, and Kajal Aggarwal in pivotal roles.
In comparison, Kamal Haasan’s other film, Kalki 2898 AD, which had a strong start at the box office, is now showing a slowdown in collections. Early estimates suggest that the film earned Rs 16.25 crore on Sunday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 579.97 crore.
Indian 2’s clash with Sarfira and the overall performance at the box office is a topic of discussion among movie buffs and industry experts. Fans eagerly await to see how the film will fare in the coming weeks and whether it can pick up its box office pace despite the initial setbacks.
