Iran has criticized the Group of Seven (G7) for condemning its recent nuclear program escalation and has rejected any link to the conflict in Ukraine. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, called on the G7 to distance itself from past ‘destructive policies’ and biased political goals. The G7 recently warned Iran against advancing its nuclear enrichment program and expressed readiness to enforce new measures if Tehran were to transfer ballistic missiles to Russia.

Mr. Kanaani emphasized that attempts to link the war in Ukraine to Iran’s cooperation with Russia are unfounded and politically biased. He accused certain countries of resorting to false claims in order to justify imposing sanctions on Iran. The United Nations nuclear watchdog’s 35-nation Board of Governors had previously passed a resolution calling on Iran to increase cooperation with inspectors and reverse its recent barring of inspections.

In response, Iran has rapidly installed additional uranium-enriching centrifuges, including at the Fordow site, and has begun setting up others. While Tehran continues to stress its constructive interaction and technical cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has labeled the recent resolution as politically biased. Iran’s uranium enrichment levels have now reached up to 60%, nearing the weapons-grade threshold of 90%. The country currently possesses enough enriched material for up to three nuclear weapons if further enriched.

The dispute over Iran’s nuclear activities continues to escalate tensions, with the G7 raising concerns about the potential implications for regional and global security. As the situation unfolds, the international community closely monitors Iran’s actions and responses to the growing nuclear program concerns.
