As the conflict between Israel and Hamas persists, the Israeli military bombed another United Nations-run school in northern Gaza, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. This attack comes just a day after a similar strike on a school in Gaza’s center claimed the lives of at least 33 people. In total, 28 individuals, including children, lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes overnight across central Gaza. The strikes targeted areas like the Nuseirat and Maghazi refugee camps and Deir al-Balah and Zawaiyda towns. Israel’s army stated that its troops successfully eliminated numerous terrorists hiding in tunnel shafts while also destroying infrastructure in the region.
In a separate incident, a drone launched from Lebanon, believed to be by the Hezbollah terror group, descended into an open area in the Jezreel Valley near Nazareth in northern Israel. Following the attack, sirens sounded in towns adjacent to Nazareth, triggering an interceptor missile launch. Israeli fighter jets later targeted a Hezbollah rocket launcher and other infrastructure in southern Lebanon. In response to threats, troops deployed artillery and mortars to several locations. A siren sounding in the northern community of Matat was attributed to two rockets launched from Lebanon.
Pro-Palestinian activists advocating for an end to the conflict in Gaza and American support for Israel scheduled a weekend protest, intending to encircle the White House. This initiative led to additional security measures, such as anti-scale fencing, amid concerns. Meanwhile, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has included Israel’s military on a global list of offenders for violating children’s rights in 2023. This decision was met with strong objections from Israel, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defending the IDF’s conduct.
As the situation unfolds, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to embark on a Middle East trip in an effort to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas as proposed by President Joe Biden. The continuous airstrikes and casualties in Gaza have necessitated an urgent call for negotiations and cessation of hostilities to alleviate the suffering of civilians and address humanitarian concerns.
