In a significant development, the Israeli army has announced the completion of its mission in the Shejaiya neighbourhood of Gaza City after weeks of intense fighting with Palestinian resistance fighters. The operation involved the destruction of eight major militant tunnels and the elimination of dozens of terrorists, combat compounds, and booby-trapped buildings. The military operation led to widespread damage in the area, turning Shejaiya into a ‘ghost town.’ The military urged residents of Gaza City to evacuate as the urban area remained a dangerous combat zone, emphasizing the tragic reality in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF’s second invasion of Shejaiya aimed to prevent Hamas from reestablishing its command and control coordination and to eliminate key tunnels used for underground maneuvers by Palestinian fighters. The operation resulted in the death of around 150 Hamas terrorists and the destruction of crucial tunnels close to the Israeli border. Additionally, the IDF’s intelligence efforts, including mapping out tunnel locations and concealing spots, have significantly contributed to thwarting potential ambushes against IDF forces.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has led to a staggering death toll, reaching 38,243 individuals, as reported by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. While the ministry has faced criticism for distorting casualty figures, the IDF estimates that at least 16,000 of those killed were Hamas or Islamic Jihad terrorists. The UN has revised casualty numbers, indicating a reduction in reported civilian deaths.

Apart from Shejaiya, the IDF’s operations have extended to other areas, with continued military activity in Rafah and the reinforcement of Israel’s aerial defense array. In response to Hezbollah’s attacks on the Golan Heights, the IDF intercepted rockets and drones, with clashes reported in multiple regions. Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah operatives in retaliation, reflecting the ongoing tensions in the region.

As the Israeli army’s operation in the Shejaiya neighbourhood concludes, the focus now shifts to preventing potential Hamas comebacks and maintaining security in the region. The IDF remains vigilant against any future threats and is prepared to take further action to safeguard Israeli territories.
