The recent political developments in Jharkhand have seen Chief Minister Hemant Soren winning a crucial trust vote in the state Assembly. The trust vote, which took place on Monday, saw the Hemant Soren-led government securing the support of 45 legislators. This victory came after Hemant Soren moved a confidence motion following his recent appointment and release on bail from a controversial land scam case. The ruling alliance, consisting of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) members, collectively holds 45 seats in the 81-member Assembly. On the other hand, the BJP-led Opposition has 30 members, making the total strength of the House 76 with some members being elected to the Lok Sabha. The trust vote debate, allocated one hour by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, saw Hemant Soren’s government displaying strong support. Hemant Soren, who is expected to expand his Cabinet post the trust vote, was sworn in as the Chief Minister on July 4, succeeding his predecessor Champai Soren.
